PRIORITIZING ACCESS NOT MOBILITY
Cities should embrace a mixed-use urban planning model focused on access not mobility. A city with short distances between destinations will greatly reduce excess travel.
Cities need to enact rigorous policies to shift from automobile trips to walking, cycling, and public transport, for the health of people and the planet.

Urban space that is currently devoted to automobile infrastructure needs to be repurposed to serve pedestrians and cyclists and to contribute to urban green space.
Public transport should be of high quality. It should serve all ages, socio-economic groups, and neighborhoods with universally accessible service with high standards of comfort, safety, and reliability.
Transportation policy and planning should recognize the importance of active travel – walking and cycling – as an essential mobility component deserving of adequate space and ample funding.
THE ROAD TO TRANSITION
Small Steps On The Road To Transition
Small steps that improve the quality of urban areas should be embraced but should also be seen as a part of an ongoing, long-term transition to livable and ultimately carfree cities.
Citizens should be invited to participate in the urban planning cycle, to voice their wishes and concerns, and to engage in diverse processes.
A basic criteria for policy and planning in cities should be the fair and equal provision of amenities and infrastructure for all population groups, including those with disabilities, the elderly, and children.
Replacing Conventional Cars With Electric Cars Is Misguided
Automated vehicles (AVs) and electric mobility do not provide a satisfactory solution for transitioning to livable cities. In fact, such an approach contains numerous risks.
