The carfree model for planning cities is immensely relevant. Now more than ever, carfree cities are an urgent necessity. It is both technically and socially feasible to move forward with the creation of new carfree cities and the conversion of existing cities. 

 

Urban residents are experiencing an ever more unpleasant and dangerous life in cities. Congestion, pollution, traffic crashes, rising temperatures, lack of outdoor recreational space, and fear of strangers are among the many problems people face largely due to the presence of cars in our cities. The creation of new carfree cities and the conversion of existing cities to carfree would greatly reduce these manifold problems and vastly improve urban life in cities.
